Inside Channel 5’s secret plans to make Dan Walker its main star
WHEN he was poached from the BBC by Channel 5, most viewers thought Dan Walker was just going to read the news for them.
But it turns out that he might be doing a variety of shows for the broadcaster – and could soon be one of their biggest all-round stars.
Speaking on the Monday Mile podcast, the former Breakfast host said: “There’s guaranteed hours in my contract which I get to make TV.
"It could be documentaries, it might be a quiz, it could be all different sorts of formats.
“It’s really exciting because you also get a bit of creative input into what gets made.
"You don’t get many opportunities where a big broadcaster comes to you and says, ‘We’d like you to come and work for us and to do loads of stuff’.”
Dan added: “I haven’t decided what to do yet.
"After I’ve done the news for a few months and we’ve got that nailed, we’ll sit down.”
