Living in Weatherfield is already hard for residents but, next week, Maria Connor (portrayed by Samia Longchambon) realises that politicians are also walking targets for drama which could entail more than personal consequences.

Coming up in the ITV soap, Maria is stressed and lashes out at Max Turner (Paddy Bever) in the barber's when she worries about a video circulating online.

She also comes under fire from her neighbours over their unemptied bins.

However, there's more trouble coming to her when her son Liam (Charlie Wrenshall) gets into a fight at school.

Maria finds out that another viral video has been doing the rounds where her head has been placed on a naked woman, making it look like she's in an X-rated film.

Understandably shaken, Maria can't believe how convincing the deep-fake video is and her other half Gary Windass (Mikey North) is seething to see her so distraught.

In later scenes, Maria reckons the police need to know about the threats she's been receiving, just as Gary recommends she lays low.

But Maria refuses to hide away and hosts a press conference - only to be heckled by Jimmy, the refuse team leader.

Gary observes the latter, deciding that he has to be behind the only trolling and threats.

His protective nature takes over as it appears he's taken on a new target and Gary aggressively pins Jimmy against the wall.

Seeing her political ambitions get out of hand, Maria decides that being on the council is not worth the strife her family is being put through.

But she receives the unexpected support of former council rival Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) who explains she's previously been in her position.

Corrie viewers may remember Sally even got arrested as her husband Tim was about to go under the knife for his heart condition.

Sally implores Maria not to be beaten in her quest to make a difference.

Maria may take a while before she can even consider Sally's pleas.

Later on, while Liam has a Star Trek themed birthday party at the Bistro, Gary pulls him, Maria, Kelly and Jake in for a family selfie.

The happy moment is short-lived when Maria orders her partner not to share the snap online, fearing yet another backlash.

This makes Maria realise the trolls have taken over her life as she's chosen to censor herself instead of sharing a wholesome family snap, while Gary comforts her.

Could Maria retaliate?
