Emmerdale spoilers: Nicola King suffers horrifying breakdown and attacks a friend after traumatic gang assault
TRAUMA has a way of making the simplest of tasks a chore as Nicola King is bound to realise.
The Emmerdale character portrayed by Nicola Wheeler puts up a brave front but her pain gets overwhelming as she attacks a friend.
Nicola was recently attacked by a group of teenage girls as Laurel Thomas was trying to get her to make peace with her sister Bernice.
While she survived the mugging, the aftermath of the damage is mostly psychological for Nicola, as ITV viewers will witness in upcoming scenes of the Yorkshire-based soap.
Coming up, Nicola is clearly suffering and left shaking when she hears a knock on the door and a shadow appears - but, hiding her pain, she's relieved to see it's Bernice (played by Samantha Giles).
Bernice has found the perfect way to distract Nicola from her assault and suggests she makes the pitch for the Green Initiative with her to the council, thus proving that their previous row is part of the past.

But when Bernice leaves, Nicola is left feeling like she's a prisoner in her own home and finds it impossible to remain alone.
This leads to her trying to keep her father Rodney (Patrick Mower) from leaving and pleading with Bernice to come over and help with the presentation.
Nicola is dealing with a crippling panic as she is later mortified to realise she's the only one available to pick up the kids from school.
However, she tries her best and makes her way to her car… only to be reminded of her brutal assault, which all began when she was walking over to her vehicle.

Overwhelmed with panic, Nicola slams on the accelerator and accidentally collides with David's van.
An angry David confronts her, demanding her insurance details but Nicola stumbles before rushing back inside and bolting the door.
Once again, David pleads for the insurance details from Nicola, who is unable to let him in.

Nicola turns to desperate measures to avoid being left alone at home and latches onto the idea of exaggerating Carl's illness to keep him with her, despite his demands to go back to school.
While Elliot and Angel are ushered off to school, a wary Carl is unconvinced as to why he needs to stay at home with Nicola.
The seven-year-old is with Nicola as she fights a panic attack before he manages to snap her out of it.
But just like any other child, Carl's cheeky nature pops out as she searches for chocolate to placate him.
Carl grabs Nicola's phone, darts outside, and leaves her with an impossible choice to make as the prospect of going outside continues to terrify her.
She soon enters full panic mode when she hears some girls laughing outside and, believing her attackers have returned for her, braces for the fight of her life.
Terrified and unable to get her grip back on reality, Nicola hits someone over the head.
