Emmerdale fans break down in tears at Mary Goskirk’s emotional confession

EMMERDALE fans have broken down in tears after Mary Goskirk came out as gay.

The mother of Rhona - who is played by actress Louise Jameson in the ITV soap - opened up to Kim Tate about the real reason she moved to the village.

Mary told Kim: “I moved here for three reasons - to fix things with my daughter, to make a fresh start and to use that fresh start to be more open about myself.

“It turns out that despite my boldest intentions, some things aren’t easy to say. I’ve never spoken my truth. 

“Oh God, I said my truth, I hate that. There is not such thing as my truth, there is only the truth.”

Kim asked her what that was and got a shock.

“I’m gay,” she replied to Kim.

“Oh my goodness. I’ve said it, it’s only taken me my whole life but I’ve actually said it.”

She opened up to Kim about how her mum raised her to be religious and closeted.

Mary told Kim how she buried being gay and just did what other girls her age was doing - and got married and got pregnant.

It wasn’t until after Rhona’s dad died, that she met her ex Louise - her friend who died during covid.

“After years of the most extraordinary friendship I realised I was completely in love with her,” Mary said.

“I was worried I’d scare her off, I dithered for month. I knew what we had was real so I decided to bite the bullet and tell her.”

But with it being lockdown, Mary had to put the conversation off until they could be face to face again

“She died alone on a covid ward,” Mary said breaking down.

“She never knew how much she was loved. I never even got the chance to say goodbye.”

Viewers were in floods of tears at Mary’s heartbreak.
