Love Island viewers furious at cliffhanger ending as bombshell is revealed to have shock link to Gemma Owen

LOVE Island fans were left furious at the show's cliffhanger ending.

It was a dramatic Friday night episode as Love Island screened Liam's departure before a surprise recoupling.

And in a further twist, a bombshell headed into the villa is revealed to have shock link with Gemma Owen.

Seconds before the credits rolled, voiceover Iain Stirling introduced a new boy - and viewers heard Gemma shout: "Oh my god, that's my ex-boyfriend. S***."

But viewers will have to wait until Sunday night's episode to find out what's going on.

Meanwhile it was all change in the recoupling as Luca stirred up trouble by choosing Gemma, leaving Davide to pick Ekin-Su.

Paige and Afia were declared single, but as The Sun revealed they escaped a dumping because of Liam's exit.

A frustrated fan said: "'THAT'S MY EX-BOYFRIEND'. A cruel 48 hour cliffhanger."

One viewer added: "I knew it would take a few days to warm up! That cliffhanger, an ex! No way! Glad the girls are safe too."

Someone else said: "Whose EXBOYFRIEND???!!!! What kind of cliffhanger????"

Earlier in the show, Liam left Love Islanders in tears as he told of his shock decision to quit the villa after his "worst fears came true".

The 22-year-old student was unlucky in love during his short stint in Majorca - and it was a major part of his decision to leave.

After setting his sights on Gemma, Liam found himself single as she went after bombshell Davide.

Then, after dating two new beautiful bombshells Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Afia Tonkmor, Liam failed to form a connection.

Despite the impending recoupling, Liam chose to walk out the villa - leaving the cast stunned.

He gathered the group at the fire pit on to break the news as his worried dad David rushed out on the first flight to Majorca.

Liam told the Islanders: "So, obviously we all came here for the same sort of reason, but I haven't been giving 100 per cent Liam. I know what that looks like and I'm miles off that.

"Trying to find someone to leave the villa with is the goal, but when you're not feeling that, it makes it a hard time to find that.

"I've thought about this a lot, it's not a spur of the moment type thing.

"I've made the decision to leave the villa. It's been a breeze, it's been an absolute ball. You are all unreal."
