NEW BBC drama Sherwood is set to have the nation hooked with its tale of murder and unrest.

The series - which is led by Lesley Manville and David Morrissey - involves two gruesome killings in a former mining village.

Where is Sherwood set?

Award-winning playwright and dramatist, James Graham, has created Sherwood, which is set in a mining village near Nottingham where he grew up.

The contemporary six-part drama for BBC One sees two shocking and unexpected murders shatter an already fractured community leading to one of the largest manhunts in British history.

For the series, writer James has drawn on his experiences of growing up in post-industrial Nottinghamshire.

He told the BBC: "It means the world to have this opportunity to bring the voices of a community I grew up in to BBC One."

Where was Sherwood filmed?

Nottinghamshire

The BBC revealed that filming took place in Nottinghamshire.

The exact locations haven't been revealed, but shooting for the series began in the county in the summer of 2021.

The Sun has contacted the BBC for a comment on the exact filming locations used.

Bolton

Crews were spotted filming near the Pigeon Tower in Rivington, Bolton in September 2021.

According to local publication , cameras were seen in the car park at the Top Barn.

One walker told Bolton News: “There was a collection of police vehicles in the car park below the Pigeon Tower.

"If you look closely at the insignia on them they say Nottinghamshire Police.

“One of the production crew held us back for a short time as we were walking down from the Chinese Gardens.

"He said they were filming a police chase scene in the nearby woods using a drone camera.”

A member of the production team confirmed to the publication that Sherwood has been filming in the vicinity, alongside a number of other locations.

Blackpool

Crews were then spotted filming again in October 2021, this time in Blackpool.

Pictures circulated on social media appeared to show a protest scene being shot.

The reported that actor David Morrissey was spotted in Preece Hall, Weeton.

When is Sherwood on TV?

Sherwood kicks off on BBC One on Monday June 13, 2022 at 9pm.
