Line of Duty fans have A LOT of theories as Vicky McClure, Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar reunite with show boss

THE Line of Duty cast and creator have reunited for drinks - sending die-hard fans of the beloved series into a frenzy.

On Tuesday evening, Martin Compston - who plays Steve Arnott - took to Instagram alongside his co-stars Vicky McClure, Adrian Dunbar and show creator Jed Mercurio.

The four pals smiled for the camera, as the Scottish actor teased fans of the show, captioning the photo: "Talking tattoo designs."

The sixth season of the critically-acclaimed BBC crime drama wrapped last year, however, there's been no confirmation of when or if a seventh instalment will air.

Despite that, fans were left reeling over Martin's recent upload, with dozens left crossing their fingers that another season could be on the horizon.

Alongside an array of red love heart emojis, one person exclaimed: "Mother of God! Let's hope you guys are talking about a seventh season."

Echoing their comments, someone else questioned: "Does this mean that a seventh season could be on the way?"

While a third gushed: "What a team! We need a seventh season. Bring it back."

So far, Line of Duty hasn’t been renewed for another season - but the stars of the show haven't exactly ruled it out.

During and interview on The Jonathan Ross Show last year, Martin revealed that they "don't know" whether another series will go ahead, but told fans: "We’ll come back if there’s a story to tell."

Martin went on to explain that the cast's uncertainty isn't unusual, as Jed often takes time off after one season finishes.

When asked whether she knew about a potential seventh season, Vicky responded: "Genuinely don’t know. We don’t know anything, not just saying it for effect."

Jed has previously spoken about the possibility of a seventh series.

Speaking to , he said: “We’re in a situation where it’s not entirely clear that there will be a seventh series - we would hope there could be.

"But we’re having to do our planning coming out of Covid, and a whole bunch of other things around the idea that these things aren’t guaranteed at all now.”

Line of Duty is available to watch on BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
