Amanda, 47, told an audience at Hay Festival of Literature & Arts: "I don't see myself as a perfect parent.

"I got a yellow flag from social services... I believe there is a happy medium whereby you do let the kids climb trees.

"Yes, they haven't got harnesses on or hard hats, but I believe there are some lessons to be learned that don't necessarily result in instant death but actually learn your own parameters."

The mother-of-nine's revelation immediately led her fans to post messages of support to her on social media.

One wrote: "It's a pity more kids didn't have the opportunity to get life skills like Amanda and Clive's, would make for decent caring human beings."

Another added: "WTF nowt wrong with how the guys are bringing their kids up, more people should take a leaf out of these guys' book instead of sticking your kids in a corner with an iPad and feeding them pizza".

A third shared: "In my opinion the children at Ravenseat are not only well mannered, polite and funny; they appear grounded and are learning so much.

"So, what's the issue and why do social services need to be involved?"

Amanda was also defended by Jeremy Vine, who told a colleague on his Channel 5 show yesterday: "She’s brilliant you’d love her."

He added: “If you’re the wrong kind of person watching that programme and you see a child of seven helping the sheep give birth to a lamb you might think that shouldn’t be happening and call social services.

“I don’t know what the flag means maybe they’ve just watched the programme.

"But there’s nothing unsafe here. It’s really odd this thing of blowing the whistle on perfectly innocent other people.”
