MASTERCHEF has crowned its latest champion, with fans in tears of joy as viewer favourite, Eddie Cook won the series.

Eddie, 30, a marine pilot from Beverly broke down in tears as he was named the 2022 Masterchef ahead of fellow finalists Pookie and Radha.

"All of my family will be so pleased and proud," he admitted.

"The whole experience was stressful, enjoyable, and I think I've discovered who I am as a cook.

"It's just the best feeling ever."

Judge Gregg Wallace told him: "What a brilliant achievement."

Eddie took out the top prize by cooking up a storm in the final including some hearty biryani and a champagne infuse caviar dish.

"You've done food you really believe in," John told the finalists.

"Today was magical."

Gregg added: "When I look at you, I can’t honestly imagine you doing anything else but cooking, you are a born cook. I can’t pay you any better compliment."

His fellow judge John Torode described Eddie as "nothing short of a culinary powerhouse."

"His love of classic French food blended with the spices of India, has made us really stand up and take notice. He’s daring, he’s adventurous, he doesn’t play it safe."

Gregg added: "I think we’ve just seen the birth of a future great chef. Eddie impressed from the moment he set foot in this kitchen. He’s hardly put a foot wrong throughout the competition."

Fans watching at home were thrilled with the choice of winner.

"The biggest of congratulations to #MasterChefUK 2022 winner Eddie ..What an absolute delight and a phenomenal cook .My fave from the start !" wrote one viewer on Twitter.

Another added: "Well done Eddie. All 3 of you deserved to be in the final but I think Eddie's dishes were just ahead over the whole competition."

And a third wrote: "I love Eddie."

Eddie, 30, is a marine pilot who lives in Beverley, Yorkshire.

Speaking after his win he said: "Everything in my life has been building up to doing something in food. It would be amazing to be able to cook in a top restaurant and with the most famous royal Awadhi chefs in Lucknow.

"It would also be exciting to write about food or even do some more TV. What I’d really love is to own my own restaurant - sharing my food memories and nostalgia.

"I always knew one day I wanted to pursue a career in food and now MasterChef has made me realise that this can be a reality.";
