Bill turned 90 on 25 April, but yesterday was his first day back at work.

Coronation Street's official Instagram shared a video of Bill seeing his surprise for the first time.

They treated him to a Coronation Street themed cake for everyone to enjoy and he was totally shocked to see it when he walked in the staff room.

As he cut into the three-tier cake, his co-stars Helen Worth, Elle Mulvaney and Tanisha Gorey cheered him on in the background.

Many rushed to the comments section to share their best wishes.

One wrote: "What a legend that man is! Happy Birthday Bill! @coronationstreet."

Another said: "There should be a soap star Hall of fame #williamroache should be the first Soap star in there!"

A third chimed in: "You look amazing for 90 Happy Birthday 🥳."

Last month ITV aired Happy Birthday Bill, a show which told the story of the actor's legendary life in the build-up to his special day.

The programme also featured appearances from some of his co-stars including Kate Ford aka his on-screen daughter Tracy and Alison King, known as Carla Connor.

TV personality Paul O'Grady is also one of his friends and quipped: "The man is 90, and he's got hair like Rapunzel!"

But within minutes of the show starting, many viewers turned to Twitter to issue the same request.

According to them, William deserves to receive a knighthood for his long career.

"The sooner William Roache gets a knighthood the better", one fan wrote while another added: "Bill Roache should have a knighthood."

Others are amazed at how great he looks.
