DI Ray viewers all say the same thing as new crime drama premieres on ITV

DI Ray viewers were all left saying the same thing as the new police drama made its debut on Monday night.

The ITV series stars Bend It Like Beckham‘s Parminder Nagra as DI Rachita Ray, who is promoted to a role in the homicide department.

The four-part series is produced by Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio

However, after learning the case she is investigating is a “culturally specific” homicide, she begins to suspect that she’s been brought on to the investigation for her ethnicity rather than her ability.

As she starts to look into the death of the victim, Imran Aziz, she realises there’s more to the murder than her colleagues first thought. 

It also becomes clear that DI Ray has her own personal mission as she begins to learn about her own identity.

Soon into the episode, viewers took to Twitter to praise the new drama, which is produced by Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio

Alongside an array of thumbs up emojis, one person penned: “Loved the first episode of DI Ray – what a thriller! Can’t wait for next instalment!”

Echoing their comments, someone else said: “Superb opening episode of DI Ray with the ace Parminder Nagra totally smashing it, especially in the first scene where we are first introduced to her character.”

While a third remarked: “What an amazing first episode of DI Ray! Gripped from the get-go. Already can’t wait until the second instalment. Gripped from the get-go.”

Many viewers also praised the cast, referring to Parminder and Gemma Whelan as stand-out performers.

Another added: “Is there a drama that Gemma Whelan has been in that isn’t good? DI Ray is another cracker.”

DI Ray continues on ITV at 9pm on Tuesday, 3 May.
