After weeks of uncontrollable and erratic behaviour, Jean (played by Gillian Wright) finally came to terms with her condition.

Her manic episode sent her all the way to Southend alone, as she readied herself to tie the knot with Harvey Monroe and while she still ignored Stacey's (Lacey Turner) numerous warnings.

The cleaner was eventually taken to hospital to get the help she has needed the entire time - but the sudden change is a shock for Stacey.

In Monday's episode Stacey asked her former husband Martin Fowler (James Bye) for support as she planned to tell their daughter Lily about what happened to Jean in Southend.

However, Martin was apprehensive and doubted the 11-year-old would be able to take in such information.

Later on, Jean's boyfriend Harvey (Ross Boatman) expressed his regret about what happened with Jean to Kat and lent Stacey a helping hand.

Stacey panicked when her car didn't start, prompting the cabbie to drive her to the hospital and go inside with her upon noticing how nervous she was.

The scenes at the hospital were heartbreaking for Stacey and Harvey.

"I never loved you. Not sure I ever really loved you all that much either," Jean told each of them.

As they headed back to Walford, Stacey revealed how hard it was growing up with her mum's bipolar disorder.

When Stacey is back home, Lily was ready to find out the truth but Stacey sent her off.

She then told Martin she has changed her mind, believing that protecting Lily is her best option.

"Lily's just a kid. Her life should be Disney movies & makeovers. Not worrying about her Nan having tried to kill herself," she told him.

Martin responded: "She needs us to be honest with her."

Stacey insisted: "No, she needs us to protect her & that's exactly what we're gonna do."

But as Stacey and Martin argued, Lily overheard them.

Viewers watching at home were devastated for the Slater family.

One fan tweeted: "Great scenes from Lacey, heartbreaking! I went through exactly the same with my Mum, the hatred & insults were the worst & unfortunately what you remember the most."

Another added: "Poor Stacey."

And third wrote: "Aw Stacey. She's already been though this more than once sadly. Both with Jean & her own illness, but as Shirley said previously she's not on her own anymore thankfully."
