Who is American Idol’s Emyrson Flora?

Who is Emyrson Flora?

Emyrson Flora, 16, is the youngest performer to compete in American Idol, beating Jordin Sparks who was 17 years old when she competed in 2007.

American Idol rules state the performer must be older than 15 and younger than 29 to compete.

Flora told the that she didn't have any formal training for performing and had only sung for her family and friends.

She revealed: "I just come from singing in my room to this pretty quick."

Flora added she hasn't performed in her school's choir but has signed up to join for the 2023-2024 school year at Walsh Jesuit High School in Ohio.

Despite her inexperience, Flora has raised the bar on the American Idol stage, taking the risky chance of performing Love In The Dark by Adele, which pushed her into the Top 24.

Flora said in an interview with : "It’s so surreal.

“I’ve learned so much about myself as an artist and as a person. I’ve grown so much.

"I think my favorite part about this is the people I’m surrounded by.”

Thinking back to her first audition, Flora told the outlet she was "in shock the whole time" she was performing, but once she got to Hollywood week, the reality started to sink in.

She said: “You start to realize this is actually happening.

"Now that it’s happening, I am trying to be very aware that it’s not normal. You have to take it all in.”

On Sunday, May 1, Flora was eliminated from the show and did not make the top seven finalists.

What have the judges said about Emyrson Flora?

Flora got a standing ovation from the judges after performing Demi Lovato's hit song, Tell Me You Love Me on April 17, 2022.

This earned her a spot in the Top 20.

As she took the stage, Flora said, “Now more than ever I feel like I belong here and I just really hope that I get to keep doing this."

Her wish came true when she was the first to find out that she would be staying to compete for the Top 14.

Judge Lionel said: ""You had a strut and walk that was great tonight."

Katy added: "You may be our youngest, but I think you are one of our most talented."

Surprised Flora said: "I never really thought that I'd be here.

"I'm just a normal 16-year-old junior in high school that no one really knew much about.

"... I don't think I saw myself as being confident enough to do something like this. ... And now I'm realizing that you can follow your dreams and I'm like starting to do that."

After she was eliminated from the show, Luke Bryan tweeted, "You guys are already stars. I can't wait to see the amazing things you do. Be proud of what you accomplished so far."
