At the end of tonight’s episode, Californian Calvin struggled to solve the final puzzle.

After a few botched guesses, he answered “final buzzer,” just in the nick of time.

However, with three spaces for the article on the board, the real answer was actually ”the final buzzer.”

Wheel of Fortune fans were surprised to see that host Pat Sajak allowed the contestant to get away with the error.

On Twitter, one wrote: “Amused that they didn't penalize him for saying ‘final buzzer’ instead of ‘the final buzzer.’

“I wonder if that was a slip-up by the producers or intentional.“

Another questioned: “Did he say ‘the’ before ‘final buzzer’?”

A third mused: “I think Pat Sajak gave away a car for an incorrect response."

Despite fans’ doubts about the legitimacy of the answer, winner Calvin walked away with a shiny red new Mazda CX-5 worth close to $50K.

Viewers were surprised at the leniency, given that a contestant was recently "robbed of a prize" for making a similar mistake.

'MELTDOWN'

During the Express Train round in an episode aired last month, contestant Chris guessed the answer to be “a frozen concoction,” before quickly correcting his answer to just, “frozen concoction”.

However, Pat refused to accept his answer, on the basis that the article “a” did not fit the puzzle.

He then passed it onto the next contestant, who achieved the correct answer simply by saying, “frozen concoction”.

Chris looked highly disappointed by the show’s strict enforcement of the rules.

Furious viewers took to Twitter to express their disbelief.

One wrote: “Your ‘rules’ have become so tiresome that they're ruining the program. I may end up developing ‘a’ new one. Don't watch the Wheel.”

Another said: “I genuinely feel bad for this guy."

A third empathized: “My man on Wheel Of Fortune looks like he’s about to have a meltdown over that loss."
