Peaky Blinders fans divided as they ‘work out’ what will happen in spin-off movie after explosive finale

THE final instalment of the popular BBC gangster drama Peaky Blinders hit our screens on Sunday night but fans think they know what’s coming next.

While many were sad to say goodbye to Peaky Blinders, fans have already started talking about what’s next for the Shelbys in the promised feature film and potential spin-off series.

The finale saw many shocking moments that fans did not expect and saw the show tie up many loose ends before the film which will be set during World War II.

The episode started when Michael (played by Finn Cole) was finally released from prison and wss out for Tommy’s (Cillian Murphy) blood.

However, as he was about to blow up the Shelby gang leader, Johnny Dogs (Packy Lee) came to the rescue and Tommy ended up shooting Michael in the face.

Arthur (Paul Anderson) avenged the death of Polly by shooting her killer, IRA boss Captain Swing, and Duke Shelby killed Billy Grade.

Near the end of the episode, viewers saw Tommy preparing to end his life, after he learnt that he was suffering from a terminal illness.

While standing in a traditional gypsy funeral trailer, he was about to shoot himself, but the ghost of his dead daughter, Ruby, appeared and tells him that he “must live” and that he wasn’t actually ill.

He then found a newspaper showing the wedding of Lady Diana Mitford and Sir Oswald Mosley and saw Dr Holford pictured in attendance.

Tommy quickly realised that his doctor had deceived him and that he was never actually suffering from tuberculoma at all.

The final shot of the episode saw Tommy riding away from his burning funeral trailer, which was set on fire by Curly, who believed Tommy to be dead.

As soon as the series concluded, fans rushed to Twitter to share their thoughts on what the feature film might include.

Many thought the film would see a scorned Finn wreak revenge on his family, while others thought the advent of World War II would trigger the brothers’ PTSD.

“I’m increasingly thinking the Shelby’s disowning of Finn could be the foundation for the film,” wrote one fan.

Another added: “Finn is going to be one of the baddies in the film… I’m actually laughing omggg… Finn boi…look how that ended for Micheal.”

And a third wrote: “Tommy is going to live under the radar just like Alfie has been letting folk think he’s dead. Can’t wait for the film.”

A fourth speculated: “Just imagine it’s 1939, Churchill has called a War council and he calls at the table a “Mr Thomas Shelby”. Everyone gasps as he’s been missing for years! And now he’s the new “Military strategist”. He came back to fight the fascists. This is my ideal film start.”

Show creator Steven Knight, told  in February 2021 that the Peaky Blinders movie will be set during the Second World War.

He said: “I know exactly what’s going to happen, I know what the story is and I’m writing at the moment.

“It’s a very specific story, that’s based on a true story from the Second World War and will be told in the Peaky way.”

Production for this is scheduled to begin in the coming months, and will see Murphy and Anderson reprising their roles as Tommy and Arthur Shelby.
