ALICE Walker's novel The Color Purple was adapted into the 1985 award-winning film of the same name.
The book is getting the big-screen treatment for a second time with a cast led by Fantasia Barrino and Halle Bailey.

Fantasia Barrino
Fantasia Barrino reprises the role of Celie Johnson, The Color Purple's lead character.
Previously, the American Idol winner played the character during the 2007 Broadway production of the same name.
"It's going to be absolutely amazing," Fantasia teased about the film.
The GRAMMY Award winner also revealed she was hesitant to take on the role of Celie again.
She shared with : "My life at that time was all over the place. So, carrying Celie's weight and my weight was not fun.
"I remember saying in interviews and radio stations, when they would ask me, I said, 'Well, I did it, but I'll never do it again.
"I'm glad that I didn't allow that door to close. I talked it over with my whole entire family and everybody kept saying, 'I think you should do it.'"

Colman Domingo
Colman Domingo plays opposite Fantasia's character Celie as her husband Mister.
"I play Mister and I think we found a way to find out what makes hurt people hurt people with my interpretation of Mister," Domingo explained to Good Morning America.
"I have castmates such as Fantasia Barrino, [who] drives the commands, and I think we created something that is going to stand the test of time."
Domingo has also been seen in Selma, Lincoln, Fear the Walking Dead, and Euphoria.
Taraji P. Henson
Taraji P. Henson portrays the role of Shug Avery, a role previously played by Shug Avery in Steven Spielberg's version of The Color Purple.
"I don't think anybody's ready for it, it's beautiful," the Oscar nominee said about Blitz Bazawule's remake to the above-mentioned outlet.
"It's magical, that's the only way I can put it. Blitz's vision is just so majestic and I don't know if I've ever seen black people look so beautiful.
"I don't think you guys are ready. You certainly aren't prepared to hear me sing the way I'm singing in this because every time I hear myself, I'm shocked over and over again."
Henson has also been seen in Empire, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Hiden Figures, and The Karate Kid.
Danielle Brooks
Danielle Brooks portrays Sofia, a part played by Oprah Winfrey in Spielberg's version.
Danielle also played the character in the Broadway production of the same name from 2015 to 2017.
She rose to fame as Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson in the Netflix series, Orange Is the New Black.
Brooks has also been seen in Peacemaker and Close Enough.
Ciara
Ciara takes on the role of Nettie Harris, the sister of Fantasia's character Celie.
"It’s art in motion, you know, Fantasia is Celie, and I play Nettie, and the younger Nettie is Halle Bailey, and so, I mean, the cast is incredible," she said of the project on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
"For me growing up Color Purple was a big movie and movement for the culture, right?
"And so now you get the musical twist to the movie, and it is amazing!
"I was really proud and kind of like blown away when I got the call to be a part of it."
Halle Bailey
Halle Bailey plays a younger version of Ciara's character Nettie.
She is known as an American actress, singer, and songwriter who rose to fame as a member of the musical duo Chloe x Halle with her sister Chloe Bailey.
Bailey has also been seen in Grown-ish, Last Holiday, and The Little Mermaid.
Corey Hawkins
Corey Hawkins takes on the role of Harpo, the husband of Danielle Brooks' character Sofia.
He is known as an American actor who rose to fame on the TV series, The Walking Dead.
Hawkins has also been seen in Straight Outta Compton, 24: Legacy, In the Heights, and BlacKkKlansman.
H.E.R
Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, known professionally as H.E.R., will portray the role of Squeak.
She is known as an American R&B singer who rose to fame in 2015 following the release of her debut EP, H.E.R. Volume 1.
Jon Batiste
Jon Batiste portrays the role of Grady, Shug Avery's husband.
He is known as an American singer who has been the bandleader and musical director on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert since 2015.
The Color Purple will mark his featured acting debut and was announced after he won five Grammy Awards at the 2022 event.
