Yet the presence of show creator Jed Mercurio, 56, on the right hand side of the shot - as well as newly-blonde Vicky's telling caption - really got fans talking.

The BBC One star wrote on her snap: ";Gang back together for a very special charity @ardgowan_hospice.

"Thanks to everyone who came tonight! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 We had such a laugh!!"

The fact she was frank in addressing the prospect of a "series 7" with no smoke and mirrors around it, or an intrigue, left fans thinking it will be a deasd cert.

One quickly wrote: "C’mon series 7 ☺️" while another questioned: "Series 7 ? 🙌x"

Another then surmised: "So… series 7 then? 😬❤️."

A show fan commented: "It's amazing to see you all back together!!" as one concluded: "So there is going to be a series 7? 😂."

FINAL SCENE?

Previously Martin, who plays DI Steve Arnott, said the cast haven't been told the drama will return.

It came after the show's creator, Jed, warned: "We’re in a situation where it’s not entirely clear that there will be a seventh series."

Martin told podcast  ahead of the season six finale: "It's different elements this year, because we have to look it in terms of, do people want us back? You don't want to overdo it.

"Ten years in you start to think of legacy, and if it goes down that well it might be the perfect ending.

"But then we might go another couple of months and... what I will say is we won't do one just for the sake of doing it.

We don't know [if there will be another series]. That's nothing new. Jed will only do it if there's a story to be told."

He added: "Jed always takes time after a series, like a couple of months.

"There's a lot of stuff above my pay grade like analytics and audience scores. He takes the emotion out of it and looks at all that."

H REVEAL

Meanwhile, many fans will be keen for a return after some were less than impressed at how season six played out.

It was revealed there was no huge conspiracy to control the police - there was just one over-promoted, under-talented and incredibly greedy man - Ian Buckells.

He used his police knowledge and dodgy connections to link up all the other corrupt officers - and make millions doing so.

While living in his normal semi-detached with his family, Buckells was a bungling detective inspector.

But when he was acting as H he was living it up in a three million pound mansion - and ordering hits on his enemies.

His cover was so secure that even the officers he controlled didn't know who he was - which is why Jo Davidson framed him.

Hastings, Kate and Steve were horrified that H had been under their nose the entire time - and was hiding his massive corruption under his own bungling.
