REBEL Wilson came under fire tonight after making a string of "cringeworthy" and "crude" jokes at the Baftas.

One unimpressed viewer tweeted: "Please, can someone get rid of Rebel Wilson.. She is appaling. Crude. Cringeworthy. Unfunny."

Another called her hosting "uncomfortable viewing".

Piers Morgan joined in too, tweeting: "I’m cringing so violently watching Rebel Wilson attempt to host the #BAFTAs that I fear my eye sockets may explode."

At one point Rebel revealed a picture of Bond actor Daniel Craig's face on her leg with '007' printed above it.

In a joke heard by guests in the Royal Albert Hall but not on TV at home, she said: "It looks like the word LOO - but I know which I would rather sit on."

Another joke about Benedict Cumberbatch also got edited out before it made it to air.

Rebel also won huge cheers when she aimed a rude gesture at Russian president Vladimir Putin through the camera.

However, thanks to quick work from producers, it appeared pixellated on screen in the pre-8pm broadcast.

The Pitch Perfect star opened by saying: "You guys might be like, why is Rebel Wilson hosting the Baftas, isn’t she Australian?

"Yes, I come from the bush. If you think about it, don’t we all?"

In another joke Rebel said: "When you become the host they give you a list of everyone who s***ged their way to the nomination. Not who you'd expect. Lots of visual effects guys."

Speaking about her dramatic 5st weight loss, she showed a picture of her during her previous Bafta appearance.

She said: "Everybody is asking me why did you lose weight and I was like, really it was to get the attention of Robert Pattinson.

"Because you know what they say, once you go Bat you don’t go back – just joking. I did not lose weight for just a guy, I did it to get more acting roles.

"I am so excited I can play the non-funny love interest in an Adam Sandler movie."

She also told the audience of film industry greats that she would be taking over as the first female James Bond.
