He will appear in one episode next week.

A source said: "He's brilliant. It will be a real treat for fans."

Viewers know that hairdresser Maria has launched her political campaign to get elected onto the local council.

Maria is determined to save the Red Rec from the developers and cut air pollution in Weatherfield.

She blitzed through Sally Metcalfe after catching her agreeing to a bung from a property developer and now she faces the local elections.

And next week she will come face to face with her biggest rival - Bernard, played by Derren.

In scenes set to be shown next week Maria will be posing for photos in Victoria Gardens for an interview with a local journalist.

But as she does, her nemesis, Bernard, appears with footballers James and Ashley.

The journalist turns his attention to the two footballers, Maria forgotten.

Later, when Maria admits she may as well throw in the towel as Bernard is going to win with his cheap tactics, Phill reckons he may be able to help.

Since Benidorm ended in 2018 after 10 series, Derren created a BBC sitcom Scarborough and opened up a Benidorm themed bar in the Spanish town.

The star also made sporadic appearances on screen in the show, most notably as a chauffeur called Elvis.
