EastEnders fans spot easy-to-miss nod to new set in first Sharon Watts scene
YESTERDAY’s trip to Albert Square kick-started Gray Atkins’ downfall after years of impunity.
However, EastEnders fans couldn’t help but notice a funny nod to the soap’s new set in a scene involving Sharon Watts.
Drama will be picking up a pace with the knowledge Gray murdered Tina Carter set to spread out through the Square this week.
And what better than a brand new set to mark the end of the serial killer’s reign of terror?
Last night’s trip to Walford toasted the debut of the brand new set with a sweeping crane shot and an on-air joke made by Sharon and Martin Fowler.

The starting shot, set to Lily Allen’s “LDN”, ended at Sharon’s flat after panning over the entire Square.
Leaving her home through the front gate, actress Letitia Dean made a comment at Martin (James Bye) about her new coat, asking him whether he liked it or not – making way for an exchange every diehard EastEnders fan quickly understood.
“It just looks the same as the old one”, Martin responded in a nod to the new set.
“Oi, this is quality, it will last years!”, Sharon pointed out.
As Martin commented Sharon’s coat won’t have “that funny smell anymore”, viewers were quick to say they were pleased by the fourth wall break
“Loved that opening scene”, one viewer commented.
Another added: “I laughed out loud, very clever opening and introduction to the new set.”
A third chimed in: “So awesome how they opened with that! Classic!”
“Loved this”, another wrote while a fan penned: “Very clever.”
The new EastEnders set cost £87million and was subjected to many delays before it was ever seen on screens.
Foxes are now reportedly causing production some grief on the set.
However, viewers can expect to see it on full display with a dramatic chase scene which will see lawyer Gray Atkins run through the streets of Walford to avoid being caught by the police.
The villain will finally get the comeuppance he deserves after killing his first wife Chantelle, Tina Carter and Kush Kazemi and his final scenes will be shown this week.
EastEnders airs on BBC One.
