AN ANTIQUES Roadshow guest was left shocked as he learned the life-changing worth of his late brother's watch that spent YEARS in a drawer.
The guest had brought in an Omega Speedmaster Professional watch and expert Richard Price revealed: "It doesn't say that on the dial, instead it's got something else very different which makes it unusual and rather special.
"We've got this mission logo which is the Apollo Soyuz mission in 1975."
He then asked the male guest if the watch was his and he replied: "It was my brothers watch, he bought it unknown to us as a family, unfortunately he died later that year in a car crash.
"The watch came back with his effects, I was the only boy in the family and my parents gave it to me."
Richard then asked if the guest liked the watch and he admitted: "No it's not really my type of watch, I found it a bit heavy, a bit bulky.
"I stuck it in a drawer and thought 'well it may come in useful some day' and 20 years later I got it out."
The guest had a receipt for the purchase which showed it had cost around £300 at the time which was "still a chunk of money."
Most read in TV
He also had a document from Omega validating that it had been made in 1976, a year after the space mission.
Richard then said: "So many people say 'no I'd never think of selling it' what sort of price might prompt you to?"
The guest said he didn't know and Richard teased: "Shall I tell you? You're going to get a minimum of £80,000 for it.
The guest laughed in shock, and Richard added: "I have a feeling that you're not going to be owning that for too much longer are you?"
"AS RARE AS IT GETS"
He admitted he wouldn't be, and Richard said in terms of that type of Omega watch, "this is about as rare as it gets."
The guest then told the camera of the moment he heard the valuation: "It just blew my mind, something as simple as that could be worth so much money to someone else.
"I was thinking of selling it anyway but that's just pushed it up, selling it is the best thing, 've just got to try and hide it from my two sisters now."
