Rock Till We Drop fans label BBC competition ‘best show ever’ as rockers get second chance at fame

VIEWERS who tuned into BBC Two's Rock Till We Drop were glad they did, describing it as 'the best show ever'.

The premiere episode saw Spandau Ballet's Martin Kemp and grime rapper Lady Leshurr put together a group of ageing rockers to perform at the Isle of Wight festival.

The celebrity musicians met on the HMS Belfast, moored on the Thames, to discuss what they were looking for in their band.

"I'm wanting a rock-reggae vibe," Lady Leshurr told Martin who said he wanted more of a rock-soul band.

The famous duo then travelled across the country with a musical director each to audition potential band members.

They were each blown away by the amazing talent of the pensioner performers, from singers to drummers and everything in between.

But it's not all smooth sailing for the musos or judges with Isle of Wight Festival's director warning Martin, the band will 'have to be good' if they want to get on stage.

Fans watching also saw how the four-part series won't be a walk in the park for the elders.

They will have to pass the audition process, with some having their dreams crushed, and then once they make it, have to put in some hard graft to be good enough for one of the biggest musical festivals in the world.

After the first episode, wrote of Rock Till We Drop: "It’s still early days, but this just could be the feelgood hit of the year," and viewers at home agreed.

"That first episode was AMAZING 🤩 can’t wait for next week!" tweeted one fan.

Another added: "I LOVED THIS SHOW CANT WAIT TILL NEXT WEEK!"

A third wrote: "What a lovely, entertaining and uplifting show. Just what we need right now."

And a fourth commented: "Best talent show ever!!"

The judges have eight weeks to audition and form their rock bands, who'll be performing on the main stage of the Isle of Wight Festival.

The judges' celebrity friends will also feature on the show, which includes Fleur East and The Darkness front man Justin Hawkins.
