HOME IMPROVEMENT

Nick Grimshaw and Emma Willis bag new Channel 4 makeover show which sees houses transformed using just an IKEA truck

IT rebooted old-school favourite Changing Rooms last year, but C4 is going for a radical new theme with its next makeover show.

Called The Great Home Transformation, the series will see members of the public have their properties overhauled using a “revolutionary truck”.

Inside is an immersive mood board for families to experience the vision for their stylish new home.

Redesigns will need no structural changes and will be based solely on the family’s activities and needs.

But unlike Changing Rooms, DIY SOS and other ambitious shows, the six-part series — being made in partnership with furniture giant Ikea — will see the work done mostly by hosts Nick Grimshaw and Emma Willis, along with the families themselves.

A source said: “Channel 4 and BBC Studios, who are making it, have thought outside the box a bit. They hope it will show Brits at home just how simple it is to radically change your home for the better through smart design.

“And for a bit of extra oomph, each episode will include a big reveal of a ‘secret room’ for one family member, to tug on the heartstrings a little.”

Airing in the spring, it is the first big job for Grimmy after he left Radio 1, teasing a big telly career.

BBC drama boss Piers Wenger is leaving the BBC after six years. He will exit the corporation in May and said it had been “more fun than anyone has the right to in the name of work”.

Piers came to the Beeb from C4, where he was behind hits including Indian Summers and Humans. At the BBC he commissioned thrillers Bodyguard and A Very English Scandal and love story Normal People.

Michael's back

FATAL Attraction star Michael Douglas is making a return to TV – this time playing one of America’s founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin.

He’s signed with Apple TV+ to play the polymath, with the story adapted from Stacy Schiff’s book A Great Improvisation. The series is a co-production between ITV Studios America and Apple.

Michael started off on TV in the Sixties and got his big break in cop show The Streets Of San Francisco.

Bobby’s frame lives on

HIT comedy Not Going Out will pay tribute to cast member Bobby Ball following his death, with a side-splitting painting of his character Frank.

Lee – played by comic Lee Mack – is given the portrait of his deceased dad.

But it is a far from flattering likeness, which leaves him and wife Lucy (Sally Bretton with Lee) wondering what they should say to the artist Wendy (Deborah Grant).

The sitcom, which returns to BBC1 this month, featured comedy veteran Bobby in 17 episodes.

The funnyman – one half of double act CANNON & BALL – passed away last year after contracting Covid. But even though he has gone, the makers of the show did not want him to be forgotten – so they came up with the idea of the hilarious artwork.

As a man who dedicated his life to creating laughter, I’m sure it’s what Bobby would have wanted.

IT’S SUGAR AND PRICE

FIRST The Great British Bake Off trademarked host Paul Hollywood's “Hollywood Handshake”, then Jeremy Clarkson did the same with his phrase “I did a thing”.

Now Apprentice boss Lord Sugar has trademarked his own name – in every possible form.

The business magnate recorded it with the Intellectual Property Office under Lord Sugar, Alan Sugar and Lord Alan Sugar, in a bid to prevent anyone from using his name on any products, in any way.

It also means that he can now use it on hundreds of different items ranging from loo brushes to sweat-absorbent stockings and even swimming trunks. Bet you’d look a bobby-dazzler down the local pool wearing those.

This Morning's Shrove Tuesday

THIS Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby attempted a Guinness World Record for throwing and catching pancakes.

The Shrove Tuesday challenge saw them try the feat over 60 seconds and a distance of three metres.

The current record stands at 46 in one minute – but Holly and Phil, left, did just a dozen. Batter luck next time!
