Coronation Street fans in shock at ‘stupid’ Sarah Platt and Adam Barlow over Lydia’s scheming

CORONATION Street viewers are in shock at how Sarah Platt and Adam Barlow fell for Lydia Chambers’ scheming.

The couple - who are played by actors Tina O’Brien and Sam Robertson in the ITV soap - were played like a fiddle by Lydia in her revenge plot.

She set her plan into motion months ago but tonight decided to confess to Sarah about her fake affair. 

Hinting that Sarah should go through Adam’s receipts - by telling her to do the opposite - Lydia put her plan into motion.

Discovering Lydia’s transactions from Adam’s stolen credit card, Sarah was heartbroken.

She saw lingerie, and then she saw a hotel charge and discovered ‘Adam’ had bought champagne and oysters that viewers saw Lydia order.

Beginning to panic, Sarah summoned Lydia and fell into the scheming woman’s trap by confronting her.

“Are you having an affair with Adam?” she asked, as she confronted Lydia.

Putting on the performance of a lifetime, Lydia told her: “We really never meant for you to get hurt.

“I thought I’d got him out of my system after all these years but he told me he felt the same.

“I never set out to have an affair with him, it just happened. It’s such a relief to get this off my chest.”

Sarah turned on Lydia, threatening to punch her, and confronted Lydia - but Lydia was ready for her.

And when Adam came home he had no idea what Lydia was talking about when she grandly announced that she’d confessed to Sarah.

“What the hell are you on about?” he said.

“I’ve no idea what you’re on about. There’s no evidence because I haven’t done anything.”

Sarah kicked Lydia out but she didn’t believe Adam’s insistence that nothing had happened.

“There’s nothing I can say here, you’re determined to believe black is white,” said Adam as he realised Sarah wouldn’t believe him.

Confronting Lydia in the street, Adam demanded to know what he had done to deserve her doing this - but she wouldn’t tell him.

Instead she told him he had destroyed her years ago and she was about to return the favour.

Winding him up in the street she ran off in front of David, forcing Adam to grab her arm - and she began shrieking about him hitting her.

She ran to Sarah and tried to convince her to not get back with Adam - getting a leak and a clock hurled at her in the process.

Sarah then broke down devastated but viewers are in shock that Lydia got away with it all.

One wrote: "If sarah believes her she must be stupid she's clearly unhinged. It getting ridiculous now."

A second said: "Seriously though how stupid is Sarah??"

Another added: "Lydia is a bulls**t merchant and it’s worse that Sarah believes her."
