The Chase’s Bradley Walsh branded ‘harsh and ridiculous’ as contestant ‘robbed of correct answer’ in final round

BRADLEY Walsh has been branded as “harsh and ridiculous” after contestants on The Chase were denied a correct answer – due to the pronunciation of a word.

Fans of the popular ITV quiz show lashed out at a recent episode after feeling that two contestants were robbed in the final round.

The questionable move came when host Bradley disallowed a correct answer because the pronunciation was wrong.

The 61-year-old host asked: “The term Dionysiac relates to what Greek God?”

Steve responded to say “Dionysus” – but her delivery missed the mark as she didn’t pronounce the word correctly.

Twitter soon became a switchboard for complaints about the harsh judgment, with many believing that her answer had been “close enough”.

Alongside an emoji of an angry face, one person penned: “ITV is clearly discriminatory against those who are well-read, but may not know the pronunciation of a word.”

Echoing their comments, someone else questioned: “Was the Dionysus pronunciation not close enough?”

While a third added: “Bit harsh on the Dionysus answer there!”

The round drew to a close with a score of 14 and Bradley addressed the awkward situation.

He said: “Now here’s the thing, that’s been a winning score. Your second half was better than your first half.

“You’ll kick yourselves when you see some of the questions. You hit the goal post with Dionysus.”

It’s not the first time that the pronunciation of a word on The Chase has come under the spotlight.

This time all eyes were on Mark Labbett when he was asked which state the capital of Little Rock was during a head-to-head.

He tried to reply Arkansas as the answer, but the quizzer actually sounded like he said “Are-Kansas”.

The state is actually pronounced “Arkansaw” and fans weren’t about to let The Beast’s blunder slip, rushing to Twitter to call him out.
