Wes Nelson signs up for ITV’s The Games after Mark Wright pulls out
LOVE Island star Wes Nelson is the latest star to sign up for ITV’s new sports challenge show The Games.
The 23-year-old has joined other members of the cast, including Corrie’s Colson Smith, for his fitness assessment before filming kicks off.
The news comes after we revealed how Mark Wright had pulled out at the last minute via text, because he was “too busy”.
An insider said: “Wes signed up for the show a couple of weeks before Mark pulled out and is a great addition.
“He was reluctant as he wants to be taken seriously as an artist but in the end he knows it's good exposure for his music.
“Wes is also super fit so will be a great contender and is likely to do very well in the show.”
The rising music star previously appeared on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Win and was one of three stars to complete the show.
The Games, which was previously called The Real 2022 Games, has been repeatedly pushed back because of the pandemic.
It was originally supposed to air in the same year as the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
It will be hosted by Holly Willoughby and Freddie Flintoff, and will be joined by former footballer Alex Scott, 36, and legendary commentator Chris Kamara, 63.
The show will see 12 stars taking on a number of Olympics style challenges, including sports like diving and track and field events.
Wes rose to fame on Love Island in 2018 where he fell for Megan Barton Hanson.
The couple didn’t last, but Wes enjoyed a successful reality TV career appearing on Dancing On Ice and Celebrity X Factor before launching his music career.
Wes – who is now a millionaire off the back of the show – has had hits with tracks See Nobody and Nice to Meet Ya.
