AS A nation of dog lovers, it's no surprise that kids TV series Woof! was a big hit back when it began at the end of the 1980s.

The series initially followed a boy called Erik Banks, who could turn into a dog and go off on adventures.

Eric was played by Edward Fidoe, with his ginger hair and freckles proving just as adorable as his furry alter ego.

Edward carried on in the role until series four, with his last episode airing almost 30 years ago to the day on February 21, 1992.

While Woof! carried on after his departure, Edward didn't secure any other TV roles, however his love of acting lead him to set up the Jacob’s Well theatre production company, specialising in comedy.

Edward set it up with pal and playwright Matt Charman, who went on to be nominated for a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for 2015 movie Bridge of Spies.

The pair worked together for six years before Edward moved on, and his career took him to McKinsey & Company - a global management consulting company to businesses and institutions - from 2006 to 2012.

Edward then decided to focus on education and after advising the likes of Cambridge University and Eton College, he set up The 21 Trust, which aims to find new ways of educating youngsters and then building institutions to put their ideas into practice.

In 2012, as part of The 21 Trust, Edward co-founded School 21 in Stratford, London.

Meanwhile, actor Adam Roper took over from Edward in Woof!, playing Rex Thomas from 1992 until 1996.

Rex inherited Eric's "condition" but once he left the show, it passed to Jim Walters, played by Sebastian Mahjouri for the ninth and final series.

Woof! finally came to an end on February 19, 1997.
