The comedian passed away in August last year aged 58 after a long battle with cancer.

At the end of the episode, a message read: "In loving memory of comedy legend Sean Lock, 1963 - 2021."

Jon Richardson tweeted: "Watching Sean's last ep of Countdown, I can see how upset I was knowing he was ill and how much that affected my performance, while Sean himself continues to be effortlessly hilarious.

"A true comic to the end. That's why he's trending on Twitter and why he's so missed."

Viewers described the episode as "bittersweet" as they were left in tears knowing it was one of Sean's final episodes.

One put: "Lovely final episode for Sean Lock on Cats Does Countdown, got a tear in my eye."

Another put: "When I saw this, my eyes filled with tears. RIP Sean Lock."

A third tweeted: "8 out of 10 Cats is bittersweet tonight! Sean Lock's last performance. You want to laugh but also - you just wanna cry."

Sean's friend and fellow comedian Harry Hill previously revealed the comic spent his final months in a hospice before dying at home.

Hill - a former doctor - said: "He struggled with [the illness] – he went through all the same emotions anyone in that position would experience. But he was stoical about it.

"Because he was so bright, he read up on all the latest treatments. He knew much more about that side of medicine than I ever did."
