How many episodes of This Is Going To Hurt are there?

There are seven episodes in total of This Is Going To Hurt.

The series kicked off on February 8, 2022, and is set to run until March 22, 2022.

You can watch This Is Going To Hurt on Tuesday nights at 9pm on BBC One.

The series was originally meant to consist of eight 45-minute episodes – but it has now been cut down to seven, as well as shifted from BBC Two to BBC One.

This Is Going To Hurt: Secret Diaries Of A Junior Doctor is a nonfiction book by the British comedy writer Adam Kay, published in 2017 by Picador.

It is a collection of diary entries written by Adam during his medical training from 2004 to 2010.

What is the BBC series about?

At times hilarious, at times devastating, This Is Going To Hurt is a series following Adam, a doctor who we find wending his way through the ranks of hospital hierarchy.

Junior enough to suffer the crippling hours, but senior enough to face a constant barrage of terrifying responsibilities, Adam is clinging to his personal life as he is increasingly overwhelmed by stresses at work.

He faces 97-hour weeks, life and death decisions, while knowing the hospital parking meter is earning more than him.

Who is in the cast?

Ben Whishaw takes the lead, playing the role of Adam Kay in the series. 

He's joined by newcomer Ambika Mod as Shruti, a young junior doctor just starting in obstetrics and gynaecology who he works closely alongside. 

Other cast includes: 

  • Michele Austin as Tracy, a confident, sharp-witted senior midwife.
  • Alex Jennings as Mr Lockhart, a consultant and Adam’s domineering boss.
  • Kadiff Kirwan plays Julian, Adam’s colleague and professional rival.
  • Ashley McGuire plays Miss Houghton, a consultant who spots potential in Shruti.
  • Rory Fleck Byrne plays Harry, Adam's long-suffering boyfriend
