A Place In The Sun’s Laura Hamilton breaks silence on shock split and says she is ‘overwhelmed with sadness’
A PLACE In The Sun host Laura Hamilton has told how she is "overwhelmed with sadness" after her shock split with her husband of 13 years.
The popular Channel 4 anchor, 39, admitted she and ex Alex Goward, with whom her relationship broke down last month, were on "different paths" in their lives.
In a new interview with , Laura confessed: "There have been times I have been so overwhelmed with sadness."
She said of their split: "It was a chapter of my life that I am now closing, and I have so many happy memories.
"I am very much someone who believes in focusing on the future, not having regrets, and I want to be positive for my children."
Laura married insurance broker Alex in 2012 - three years after they started dating.
They share two children together, eight-year-old Rocco and a daughter Tahlia, six.
Candidly addressing the reason for the split, she told the publication: "It was a decision we both came to. We have an enormous amount of respect for each other, but we are now on different paths.

"At the point it was announced, we'd already overcome a lot of difficult times.
"But I am lucky that we have the relationship and respect for each other that we have, and our children's happiness will always be our priority."
SHOCK SPLIT
Last month, the TV presenter released the surprising statement on Instagram to fans announcing she had separated from Alex.
Laura said: "This isn’t something I ever thought I’d be saying but, after 13 years of being together Alex and I have separated.
"Our children are and always will be our number one priority and we would respect privacy for our family at this time."
Alongside her message to fans, Laura shared an image which read: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."
The TV star turned off comments on her Instagram post, stopping followers from leaving messages underneath.
STRAINED
A source commented that the strain of lockdown had seen the couple's relationship reach breaking point.
A pal told The Sun on Sunday: "Laura is often away abroad travelling with her work on A Place In The Sun, so the couple weren’t used to spending so much time together under one roof.
"She really wanted to make the marriage work for the sake of the family. She threw her all into saving the relationship, but in lockdown they reached crisis point.

“The pressure of being stuck at home and working under one roof put too much strain on the relationship. It seemed easier in the end just to go their separate ways.
"Lockdown was tough on them as a couple, like many people in the UK, and they’re just moving forward with their lives. Laura’s friends rallied round her to give her the support she needed and she’s been throwing herself into work.”
BACK TO THE GRIND
