Vera’s Brenda Blethyn reveals why she refused to return to set of hit drama
VERA'S Brenda Blethyn has revealed why she refused to return to the set of the hit drama.
The 75-year-old actress has played a detective in the main role since 2011.
Filming for the ITV series takes place in the North East and while the surroundings are picturesque, the weather can be an issue.
Brenda revealed: "I’m generally the warmest one on set but the long, freezing shoots do take their toll.
"I come home and say, ‘Never again! Where’s me slippers?’"
However, it's Brenda's love of the character that keeps bringing her back, as she added to Mail Online: "But I miss Vera. I miss the cast and crew and so I hope it’ll come around again."
Vera is much loved by ITV viewers, and Brenda thinks it's to do with her trademark brimmed hat and trench coat combo.
She said with a chuckle: "People like Vera because the viewers are not in competition with her hourglass figure.

“She doesn’t look like she’s just rolled off a catwalk and she’s not dependent on lipstick and I think people appreciate that."
She added: “They like her put-downs too."
Vera fans were left devastated when the final two episodes of the current series disappeared from schedules to make room for Vicky McClure's new drama Trigger Point and Good Karma Hospital.
However, Brenda reassured the no-nonsense detective would be back, tweeting: "There are two episodes still to be shown and we start filming four more in March. yaaaaaay!"
Vera is available on ITV Hub.
