As a comedian, actress and writer, Barunka is known for writing several episodes of Motherland, Breeders and Timewasters.
The Teacher is the writer's first serious drama.

What is Channel 5 series The Teacher about?
Sheridan Smith takes the lead role as the teacher who is accused of sleeping with a minor in the Channel 5 series.
She plays Jenna Garvey, a popular teacher at a Bradford comprehensive, with a chaotic private life.
Jenna is used to living life in the fast lane by being a heavy drinker which often leads her to blackouts and casual sex.
However, her life becomes complicated when she is accused of sleeping with a 15-year-old pupil on a night out.
Viewers of the series will see Jenna and schoolboy Kyle dancing in Lazarus nightclub as she celebrates her promotion to Head of English.
What happened on that night will see enormous consequences and will haunt her over the four-part drama.
You will have to wait and see if she is found guilty of sleeping with a minor but, in the meantime, she is treated as guilty by many and risks the chance of losing her job.

Actress Sheridan stars as disgraced teacher Jenna Garvey, while actor Samuel Bottomley portrays 15-year-old Kyle.
Samuel played Ralph Roberts in Ladhood, Dean Paxton in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, and Jordan Wilson in Ackley Bridge.
Former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher stars as Jenna’s colleague and love interest Jack.
famous for her role as Rae in My Mad Fat Diary, plays Nina along with Silent Witness actress Cecilia Noble stars as Pauline Booth.
Holby City star Sarah-Jane Potts stars as Mary, while former Corrie actor Ian Puleston-Davies portrays Brian.
Corrie actress Karen Henthorn stars as DI Sowerby.
Karen Bryson plays Ava, Harry Hepple as Gabriel, and Reuben Johnson portrays Sean.
Other actors include Anil Desai starring as Mr Mills, Tillie Amartey as Izzy, Dhillon Aaronveer plays Adnan, Yemisi Oyinloye portrays Denise, and Matt Devere stars as JoJo.
David Fleeshman portrays Jenna’s father Roger.
