Helen was pregnant with Lark while filming series 11, and her pregnancy has been disguised by clever camera angles, clothing and props.

However, some negative Call the Midwife viewers have taken to social media to bizarrely criticise Helen for being pregnant when filming the show, and the actress wasn't standing for it.

Taking to Twitter after Sunday's episode, Helen wrote: "I’ve seen too many ridiculous comments about my pregnancy whilst filming @CallTheMidwife1 (also thank you for the lovely comments!)

"Women get pregnant, our bodies change. But we have the right to work if we choose to do so. How about just supporting it, and don’t question it?"

One of the tweets she was referring to read: "It's very unprofessional in my opinion, it's not as if it's filmed all year round. It's a short window.

"She should quit if she wants to get pregnant during filming. It ruins continuity and the aesthetics of the show."

However, Helen's fan quickly raced to her defence as well, with one writing: "Utterly ridiculous, Helen’s body, her choice if or when she gets pregnant, not a so called fan berating a fabulous actress, at least they are aptly named."

Another tweeted: "Either accept her choice to work while pregnant or turn off the telly. Please!"

A third added: "I didn’t even notice you were pregnant. What does it have to do with anyone anyway. Beautiful Helen good luck and hurry back #CallTheMidwife will be waiting for your return xxx."

Sunday's episode saw Helen's character Trixie head to Portofino to see her godmother, who is seriously ill, and her departure left fans devastated.
