THE One Show viewers were seriously distracted by Neil Morrissey's "posh" new voice last night.

The actor, 59, made an appearance on the BBC One programme to talk about the new series of ITV's The Good Karma Hospital.

But fans were convinced that the Stafford-born star sounded very different during Tuesday night's instalment of the show.

Many took to Twitter to share their confusion - and they all thought the same thing.

One wrote: "Is it me, or is Neil Morrissey notably posher than he used to be?"

Another tweeted: "Why is Neil Morrissey so posh?"

A third chimed in: "It's like he's totally forgotten he's from the Midlands."

Meanwhile a fourth pointed out: "25 years ago he didn’t even have 'supper'."

The Line of Duty star is about to return to our screens as Greg McConnell, a tax dodging beach bar owner with a heart of gold in The Good Karma Hospital.

And there are some exciting scenes ahead for the businessman.

He told hosts Jermaine Jenas, 38, and Lauren Laverne, 43, that his alter-ego "commits a heroic act" by scaring off some bullies, but then gets himself into a bit of trouble.

Neil explained: "Then they find out there are some inconsistencies with my visa, so then it turns out throughout the series I then have troubles trying to be able to actually stay in India.

"It's a sort of reflection of what's been happening over here, with migrants and coming over, you've got to get your ducks lined up in order to do the correct thing and Greg has been naughty and hasn't."

The show first aired in 2017 and had three successful series.

The fourth season is due to air next week on ITV.

Neil shot to fame in 1984 as Oliver in Juliet Bravo, but is best known for playing lead role Tony in Men Behaving Badly, which he bagged eight years later.

He's also taken on the voice of Bob the Builder, played Marcus Ainsworth in Skins, Eddie Lawson in Waterloo Road, DC Nigel Morton in Line of Duty and Disco Biscuit in Death in Paradise.

Most recently he's starred in The Long Call, Syndicate, The Unforgotten and Midsomer Murders.
