Why did Brooke Vincent quit Coronation Street?
CORONATION Street actress Brooke Vincent has quit the show after appearing as Sophie Webster for the last 18 years.
The star was thought to have been on maternity leave but now, a Coronation Street source has confirmed that her contract ended two years ago.
Why did Brooke Vincent quit Coronation Street?
Brooke left Coronation Street to go on maternity leave, where she gave birth to her first child, Mexx, with partner Kean Bryan on October 23, 2019.
By November 2020, the 29-year-old confirmed that she was pregnant with her second baby, to which she gave birth to another son, Monroe, in May 2021.
It was believed that Brooke would reprise her role on the show at some point, but an insider said "there are no talks about bringing her back on".
As for her character, Sophie Webster, she departed the Cobbles at the time to go off on her travels after girlfriend Paula Martin (played by Stirling Gallacher) bought the tickets for her.
What has Brooke Vincent said about quitting?
Brooke is yet to comment on quitting the show.
An insider told The Sun: “Everyone thought Brooke would be coming back to the soap but her contract ended two years ago and there are no talks about bringing her back on.
They added: “Brooke has mentioned that she might do a bit of acting work towards the end of this year, but it won’t be on the cobbles.”
Another source told The Sun at the time that the production team have no plans to kill off her character anytime soon so she’s free to return any time she wants.
Brooke has appeared in almost 1,300 episodes and plays one of the most popular characters of the modern era of the show and has proven to be well-liked.
She joined Corrie in 2004, and became the third actress to portray the role of Sophie, taking over from Emma Woodward.

She made her on-screen debut in May of that year, and remained on the show until 2019.
The source continued: “The bosses would have her back in a heartbeat but it doesn't look like that's going to happen for several years at least”
What will she do next?
It looks like the mother-of-two will be concentrating on raising her sons for the foreseeable future.
A source confirmed that she is “making good money” from her own company and from “various other Instagram posts”.
Also with Kean’s football salary - there is no need for her to rush back to the soap’s intense schedule any time soon.
Brooke owns the company Oh So B, which sells diaries and planners.
