Joey Essex screams in terror as he’s rescued from drowning by emergency divers on I’m A Celebrity Australia

JOEY Essex was rightfully terrified when he got disoriented in freezing cold water surrounded by terrifying creatures on I'm A Celebrity Australia.

The former Towie star, 31, fell victim to the harsh temperatures and became disoriented as he lost oxygen, needing emergency divers to rescue him.

In the challenge, Joey had to swim through a freezing pool covered with plexiglass towards holes - and when he found the hole, he had to swim towards an 'ice block' filled with creepy crawlies to retrieve gold stars.

After retrieving the stars, Joey had to swim back towards hosts Julia Morris and Chris Brown.

But on his swim back he began to run out of oxygen and became very disoriented.

Comedian Julia who is normally full of jokes, turned very serious and called for an emergency diver to get in to save Joey from drowning.

"Oh my God. I'm gonna panic. Can we get the diver?" Julia shouted.

Joey spent a few seconds underwater as the diver helped him get some air.

The reality star revealed afterwards he thought he was getting hypothermia and started panicking.

"That was intense. I couldn't find the hole. The goggles got the water in them. And it's hard... You couldn't... It was hard to find the holes," Joey struggled to say.

"There was a few times that I was panicking hard underwater. I couldn't breathe."

Joey is one of 10 famous faces taking part in this year's Aussie version of the popular ITV reality programme.

The only British celeb starring in the show this year is Joey, who took part in the UK version of the programme eight years ago.

He starred in the show with model Amy Willerton, Westlife star Kian Egan and Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter, and placed fourth.

Last month was left devastated as he showed fans the damage to his jacuzzi and ";broken" pool area after storms hit Essex.

He fell victim to the harsh weather which wreaked havoc on his £3million bachelor pad.

Joey showed fans the damage and listed several problems including a flooded jacuzzi and wrecked outdoor area.

Joey regularly gives fans a glimpse of his stunning abode that he bought when he was 24.

The Essex lad shot to fame in 2011 on the second series of ITVBe's Towie and starred in programme for eight series before pursuing different things.
