AUTHOR George RR Martin has revealed that Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon will leave fans "heartbroken".
Anticipation for House of the Dragon has been sky high ever since HBO confirmed its cast last year.
Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith is joined by the likes of Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Eve Best, Rhys Ifans, Outlander’s and Sonoya Mizuno in the star-studded lineup.
Game of Thrones fanatics got a sneak peek at the action courtesy of an HBO trailer that dropped in late-2021.
And now, creator Martin has teased what fans can expect from the Targaryen-centric series - and it sounds promising.
Taking to his Live Journal, Martin penned: "I am anticipating House of the Dragon pretty eagerly myself, for what it’s worth.
“Okay, I am hardly objective,” he joked. “And I know a lot of what you will be seeing.
“Also, mum’s the word now, don’t tell anyone, I’ve seen a rough cut of the first episode - and loved it.”
The consensus online was that the trailer was “promising”, with many viewers anticipating that the series will be “the best show of 2022”.

Hinting at what to expect, Martin added: “It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral - just the way I like my epic fantasy.
“I think the Targaryens are in very good hands. Anticipate away. I do not think you will be disappointed.”
House of the Dragon will be released on NOW later this year.
