not ambiguous!

Gavin and Stacey’s Rob Brydon finally reveals Uncle Bryn’s sexuality after years of fan theories

ROB Brydon has spoken about his Gavin & Stacey character Uncle Bryn's sexuality for the first time, revealing he is convinced Bryn is gay.

The comedian, who has played him in the BBC sitcom since it started in 2007, said creators James Corden and Ruth Jones never said Bryn is homosexual, but reckons it is obvious that he is.

Asked if the character is gay, Rob explained: “There's a part of me that doesn't want to say anything because I think it should be in the mind of the audience.

“Obviously they have written it... but it's not ambiguous is it. I'd be surprised if he wasn't.

“I wonder if he's just never acted on it. They've never said to me… it's just what's there in the script."

Speaking on the Table Manners podcast, he added: “But, you know, the way he gazes at Larry Lamb, who plays Mick…”

The famous fishing trip storyline, involving an incident with his on-screen nephew Jason, has also fuelled speculation among viewers that he is gay.

The show ran for three series and returned for a Christmas special in 2019 which was watched by 18.5million people to make it the biggest single comedy episode of a series since records began in 2002.

Last year Larry said it would be “cruel” to not bring Gavin & Stacey back again, after it ended with Nessa, played by Ruth, proposing to James’ character Smithy.

He said: "I think it would be pretty cruel to leave us on that cliffhanger.

“After the response it got at Christmas, you can more or less be certain that, sooner or later, there will be more.

"I'm sure the BBC can persuade Ruth and James to write more, so it's a question of when, not if.

"The problem is, logistically, it's a bloody nightmare as so many people involved with it have very active careers. It's virtually impossible for there to be a whole series, but I imagine there will be another special.

"I've always thought a logical thing to do would be a Gavin & Stacey movie, but that's just my idea."
