Alan Partridge creator Coogan plays the notorious BBC star in The Reckoning.

Writer Neil McKay revealed some of those targeted by Savile would be on set to see Coogan, 56, wearing reproductions of the monster’s outfits.

He said: “It’s clearly going to be strange. But they wanted to do it, they’re fully prepared, so it will be interesting.”

He added: “The victims concerned requested to attend filming since we are telling their stories, and all appropriate safeguarding measures were put in place by production to facilitate this.

“The team are working closely with many people whose lives were impacted by Savile to ensure their stories are told with sensitivity and respect.”

McKay says he previously invited relatives of victims of Moors Murderers Myra Hindley and Ian Brady to watch Maxine Peake and Sean Harris playing them in a 2016 ITV two-parter.

Organisations for sex abuse victims have already slammed the BBC for making a show out of the crimes of Savile, who died in 2011 aged 84.

The Survivors’ Network said: “It should not be used as entertainment.”

But the corporation has strenuously defended its decision to make the programme, set to air in 2022.
