Revealing the photo was in memory of her gran, who she lost to Alzheimer's 20 years ago, Sally wrote: "For a cause very close to my heart in memory of my darling Gran... her granddaughter and great grandchildren.

"It’s time to express yoursELF and join us in dressing up for #ElfDay! You can go full elf complete with a jingly hat, or just wear sneaky elf socks – it’s up to you! Sign up and help defeat dementia."

Fans loved the snap of Sally and her boys, with one writing: "Great cause you have two very handsome boys."

Another said: "The three of you look great xx." And a third added: "love you supporting this - on my own family journey with this now x."

Sally and husband Steve White, 56, welcomed the boys in September 2010, and the former Coronation Street actress recently opened up about the time they got to spend together during lockdown.

Revealing Louis and Victor were learning Taekwondo over Zoom, Sally said: "There were many things they had to learn and they were so dedicated.

"I didn’t understand what they were doing, but I was just absolutely in floods of tears because I was so proud of them."

Sally also remembered her gran, saying she was the "matriarch"; of their family.

She added: "My grandma was a very funny, down-to-earth, sarcastic, Mancunian woman, and she was the matriarch of our family.

"We all felt safe and protected by her, so when her mind started being taken away, and her memories being chipped away, we were devastated because we knew there was no getting better and there was no good ending."

Since leaving the cobbles of Weatherfield for good in 2006 - when her character Shelley Unwin walked away from her abusive ex Charlie Stubbs, played by Bill Ward - Sally has appeared in various TV dramas.

She and fellow former Corrie star starred in detective series Scott & Bailey from 2011 to 2016, she worked with Michelle Keegan on Ordinary Lies and most recently she played Jean White in Channel 5 comedy-drama The Madame Blanc mysteries.
