Adam Woodyatt’s on-screen ex-wife reveals shock off-camera friendship with I’m A Celeb star and sweet gift he sent her
AS ADAM Woodyatt battles against the elements in the I'm A Celebrity castle, his on-screen ex-wife has revealed their surprising relationship off-camera.
Adam, 53, made his name as the notorious Ian Beale in EastEnders, who was once married to the cunning Cindy, played by Michelle Collins.
Chatting on ITV's Lorriane, Michelle, 59, revealed the pair had a heart-warming friendship, now they were no longer work colleagues.
She told the host: "Weirdly, Adam and I have got closer over the last probably 10 years actually.
"When we were working together we were a bit kind of… you know."
The former Corrie star went on to explain that Adam had been a massive support when her mother died from cancer earlier in the year.
"I’m very close to him," said Michelle.
"My mum sadly died at the end of April and he sent me this beautiful rose which has now really grown, really blossomed and he was really caring and thoughtful.
"We’ve talked a lot during the pandemic."
The actress admitted that she hadn't had the opportunity to watch him on I'm A Celebrity much due to pantomime rehearsals, but added that she was "proud of him".
She explained: "It’s really tough for Adam as he’s so keen for people to think he’s not like his character."
Michelle and Adam played Mr and Mrs Beale in Walford for just over a decade - between 1988 and 1998 - until Cindy died of childbirth in her final episode.
Adam was recently written out of the Walford action as he takes a break from the show.
He has suggested to fans that he may never reprise the role after his break from filming.
The actor has played the Albert Square businessman for 36 years, appearing in the first episode in 1985.
