McDonald and Dodds kicked off on June 19, at 8 pm on ITV.

Each of the four episodes will air weekly at the same time, running for 90 minutes.

Quirky detective pair McDonald and Dodds will be returning to picturesque Bath in season three, but are set to face four brand new murder mysteries.

The first episode treated viewers to the mysterious death of a young woman in a deck chair, who died while still smiling.

Jason Watkins returned to his role as Dodds opposite Tala Gouveia as McDonald, with Outnumbered's Claire Skinner joining the cast as Chief Superintendent Ormond.

Episode Two sees McDonald and Dodds sucked into the fast and furious world of Formula 1 after a driver dies during a sub-3.5-second pit stop.

The third episode sees a case of social media vs reality when a lifestyle influence dies while getting a nose job.

The fourth and final episode follows the team as they investigate after the body of a successful businessman is found in a shallow grave near Glastonbury Tor.

Season three is the longest season so far thanks to fans enthusiasm for the show, doubling in episode numbers from the first series.

What happened in seasons one and two of McDonald and Dodds?

Season 1

The very first episode of the show, titled The Fall Of The House Of Crocket, saw our detective duo meet for the first time - with more than a little bit of tension.

The duo investigate a mysterious murder in the expensive mansion home of Max Crockett, a business tycoon.

The first series, which consisted of only two episodes, then followed this up with Wilderness Of Mirrors, which followed our detectives as they investigated the untimely death of a wealthy patient staying in a private rehab clinic.

Although it initially seems like the victim has committed suicide, not everything is quite as it appears.

And we see the pair begin to gel with old and new methods working well together.

Season 2

The show was extended to three feature-length episodes for its second season, with the first instalment, The Man Who Wasn't There, featuring a mysterious hot air balloon trip which sees five friends take to the skies, but just four return.

In the second episode, the detectives are left stumped when a girls trip goes wrong and the two women become murder suspects.

The third episode, which aired in April 2021, followed the tale of an unfortunate social media influencer who undergoes plastic surgery - only for the procedure to go horribly wrong.
