Cash In The Attic returning after a decade – with a new host on a different channel

DAYTIME telly gem Cash In The Attic is set for a reboot – a decade after the BBC axed it from schedules.

Football legend Chris Kamara has signed up as presenter, while original face Jules Hudson returns as co-host.

But the format remains unchanged, with the focus still firmly on finding hidden treasures in contestants’ homes.

A Channel 5 source said: “Of course, Kammy brings his own charm to proceedings, but fans of the original show will find lots that they recognise in the new version.

“If it’s not broke, don’t fix it, so the reboot has simply been refreshed.

In the ten years the show has been off air a lot has changed in the antique world.

“There’s a new desire for vintage and shabby chic, so there’s the hope that a new generation of treasure hunters will tune in.

“And so much is now online as well. The marketplace is new and fresh so there was no need to change the format.”

Chris and Jules will work with antique experts to help people make cash from the bits and bobs they’ve overlooked.

Jules said: “I’m really excited and very proud to be returning to host Cash In The Attic.

“I can’t wait to get back into attics and auction rooms across the country, helping our viewers raise some welcome extra funds to make their dreams come true.

“The series was a firm favourite the first time around, and I’m sure its return will be welcomed once again, nearly a decade after it left our screens.”

Chris said: “I’m looking forward to helping people turn their old stuff into some unbelievable cash.”

This is not the first time that Channel 5 has bought up programmes axed by rivals.

Eggheads was bought from the Beeb and premiered on 5 last month.

And the channel signed a £200million contract in 2011 with Endemol to take up Big Brother.

Top Gear lads go X-Rated

THEY said it would be hard to top the banter of Top Gear’s Clarkson era.

But somehow Paddy McGuinness, Chris Harris and Freddie Flintoff have managed it.

And they reckon their jokes can be so rude, the show would benefit from a late-night spin-off.

Chris said: “I think we have more fun when the cameras stop filming. A post-watershed late night show would be incredible. It would be so funny but we would be sacked immediately.”

And Paddy agrees: “It can get quite dark when the filming stops. The chat gets a bit naughty.

“They should record everything that happens after official filming has stopped and stick it on late at night as a bit of an iPlayer spin off.”

Sounds like these three wise men have a top idea for the Christmas special.

The Strictly It Takes Two host said: “I really need one. And I need a holiday – a week’s all-inclusive in the sun, with someone bringing me food and drink, and not moving.

“After the year I’ve had, which everyone knows has been hard, I just want to have fun and get a bit of joy in my house.”

Despite reports he’d turned to celeb dating app Raya, Rylan says he’s not in the mood for a relationship.

“I’m not actually dating, my friend signed me up to a dating app for a laugh”, he said last week. “I’m enjoying being on my own.”

Rylan was chatting to launch a competition to win a Christmas party from i heart wines. See iheartwines.co.uk/pass-the-prosecco.

Jonny landed the role in new series Flux after a friend tagged him on a casting agency’s Facebook page, asking for someone 6ft 10in or over for a new TV show.

Jonny explained: “I sent a message saying ‘I’m 7ft 2in, is that too tall?’ ”

I’ve never seen a Dalek or a Cyberman that big – and Jonny looks more intimidating than either of those baddies

But will he bang his head trying to get through the doors of the Tardis?

Easier training

DANCING On Ice pro Robin Johnstone says training is easier this year with Covid rules relaxed.

The skater, paired with rugby ace Ben Foden, told me: “We get a little more help in terms of extra eyes on the ice.

"It makes it easier to see things we may have otherwise missed.”

Dermot: My son and hair

THIS Morning host Dermot O’Leary has revealed members of the public keep thinking his little boy Kasper is a girl when they see him out and about.

Dermot and wife Dee Koppang welcomed the tot in June last year, although they have opted to keep their new arrival off social media.

The TV host says he thinks people get confused by the one-year-old’s long locks.

Dermot said: “He has girly hair so a lot of people say I have a lovely little girl. I don’t care as long as he is happy.”

It’s not only his son who is falling victim to a case of mistaken identity either.

Last week the former X Factor host showed off his good humour after legendary comedian Barry Humphries appeared to mistake him for Phillip Schofield and praised him for coming out live on TV.
