Countdown’s Rachel Riley fuels Anne Robinson feud saying co-host ‘isn’t cuddly’ and ‘very matter of fact’
RACHEL Riley has described Anne Robinson as “very matter of fact” as she opened up about their working relationship – amid their off-screen feud.
The Sun revealed how the pair have clashed over dressing rooms, make-up artists and wardrobe budgets backstage on the Channel 4 quiz show.
Anne, 77, has left maths whizz Rachel, 35, frustrated with her diva demands since stepping into former host Nick Hewer’s shoes in June this year.
Speaking about their relationship, Rachel told Magazine: "She found her feet very quickly and soon made the show her own. She’s comfortable bantering with the contestants.
"She’s called out some comedians and you can tell they’re up for a fight. They come in with their lines prepared. She’s not known for suffering fools gladly."
Asked if Anne was more cuddly off screen, Rachel said: "I don’t think anyone would describe Anne as cuddly.
"She’s very matter-of-fact. To be honest though, due to the pandemic we haven’t been able to socialise like we normally would."
We revealed how the row between the pair escalated when Anne muted Rachel’s microphone on set after tiring of hearing her talking to contestants.
Rachel, who has just given birth to her second daughter, has been so riled up by the situation she has threatened to quit if Anne isn’t pulled up over her behaviour.
An insider said: “Rachel and Anne had clashed for some time and for Rachel, enough is enough. She has moaned about Anne a number of times and even said she would consider walking away from Countdown if the issues weren’t sorted.
“Rachel went on maternity leave last month and the break from the set couldn’t have come at a better time.
“She has really struggled with Anne and been backed by Susie, who has seen it all first hand and has similar gripes.
“Rachel just wants to be treated with more respect and she expects it to be different when she returns to filming.”
