EMMERDALE fans were left distracted during Gabby Thomas' dramatic yet unrealistic birth scene.

Viewers saw Gabby (Rosie Bentham) give birth surrounded by her mum Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles) and gran Diane Sugden (Elizabeth Estensen).

However, viewers noticed how clean the baby was and how it had no umbical cord.

Taking to twitter, one fan said: Why don't babies on the soaps have umbilical cords?

A second wrote: "The baby just comes out clean with no blood and the umbilical cord has been cut."

Another penned: "He's so perfect... and so clean for a baby who's just popped out."

Gabby gave birth to a baby boy while she was planning to run off to Portugal with Diane.

Kim returned to the home farm excited to meet her new grandson.

However, she was devastated to learn Gabby was planning to take him away with no contact.

Actress Elizabeth Estensen, who plays Diane, announced she would be retiring.

Liz said: "For the past 22 years, I have loved playing Diane Sugden - she's kind, reliable and fiercely loyal.

"However, I now feel the time has come to say goodbye. Emmerdale will always remain special to me.

"I've been treated with respect and kindness and I've had the very best friends and colleagues, both past and present.

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
