CHARLIE Wernham made his name on Britain's Got Talent, but 13 years later the former child star is unrecognisable as he joins EastEnders.

Gone is the cheeky smile, as the 27-year-old takes on the role of straight-talking Aaron Monroe on the long-running soap.

But in 2008, Charlie was playing for laughs as a young stand-up comedian on the BGT stage.

He got nods from all three judges as he performed his routine in front of Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden.

Simon commented at the time: "We've had some rotten comedians on this show, but you're the only one who's made me laugh and told jokes that I could understand."

While Amanda added that Charlie had "made her moan" with his routine.

With his three 'yes' votes, the teenager went through to the next round before making it to the semi-finals, where his journey on the show ended.

But since then, the talented youngster has gone from strength to strength with appearances on well-known programmes.

After enrolling at the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre school for a series of weekend classes, Charlie bagged a role in The Inbetweeners.

He played a bully who beat up Simon Cooper, one of the main characters played by Joe Thomas.

You'll also recognise his as the cheeky Mitchell in Jack Whitehall's BBC3 series Bad Education.

Most recently, he was cast as Hollyoaks' Robbie Roscoe from 2013 to 2016.

Now his fans can see him featuring as one of the newest residents to Albert Square.

FUNNY GUY

Aaron, who has a job in the city in finance, will stop by to see his dad Harvey (Ross Boatman) and younger sister Dana (Barbara Smith), but a few things catch his eye and he decides to hang around.

On his new role, Charlie said: “It was always a childhood dream of mine to be in EastEnders.

"It’s a show that’s constantly on TV in my household as my family are massive fans so it’s always been close to my heart.

"I can’t wait to get cracking and join an incredibly talented cast!”
