Countdown stars locked in ‘young vs old feud’ as Rachel Riley and Susie Dent ‘clash with Anne Robinson’

TENSIONS are reportedly running high on the Countdown set after Rachel Riley and Susie Dent are said to have clashed with host Anne Robinson.

Anne, 77, became the first female host of the Channel 4 game show when earlier this year she replaced Nick Hewer after his 10 years at the helm.

According to inside sources there has been an "awkward and uncomfortable atmosphere" on the show ever since Anne took over the big job on the show.

The insider told that "rather grand ways" have been causing problems between her and her co-stars.

Rachel and Susie are reportedly on one side of the feud in what has been dubbed a "young versus old" row.

"The tension between Rachel and Anne is being openly discussed," the source said.

"It is very much Rachel and Susie against Anne – a case of two camps."

The source added: "Rachel and Susie don’t care much for Anne and her rather grand ways and things have become pretty uncomfortable.

"Anne likes to do things her way, while Rachel doesn’t go along with how she operates.

"This has now led to little social interaction between them away from the cameras."

Anne was known for her cutting putdowns during her time hosting The Weakest Link, and it seems she has kept her tongue sharp for her latest gig too.

On a recent show, Anne mocked the Isle of Wight saying: "Today marks the sinking of the Mary Rose… some people will do anything to get out of going to the Isle of Wight.”

Then a contestant called Sue said she would like to go to Antarctica but Anne said it was "cold and desolate".

She then added: "You are used to it coming from Norfolk.”

Before she started on Countdown, Anne seemed prepared for some viewer backlash, as she said: "Some [viewers] will loathe me because they’ll feel I’ve ruined their show.”

Countdown airs weekdays at 2.10pm on Channel 4.
