A TRAILER carrying hundreds of costumes for BBC1’s new comedy drama The Outlaws crashed into Bristol Harbour this morning.

The clothes, valued at hundreds of thousands of pounds, included the elaborate outfits worn by former Poldark star Eleanor Tomlinson who plays extravagant toff, Lady Gaby in the show.

It came after filming had wrapped on series two of the programme which was made in Bristol, the home city of the show’s creator and star, Stephen Merchant.

The lorry moved backwards off the harbour edge in the water at around 7am and ended up partly submerged.

But it’s not clear exactly how or why it started moving, fortunately no-one was injured and nearby boats were evacuated.

The incident did see three fire engines arrive at the scene with a team of firefighters with winches as they fought to stop the HGV from sinking completely.

It was the same harbour where, last year, a controversial statue of Bristol slave trader Edward Colston was dumped after being removed from a plinth in the city by Black Lives Matter protestors.

Six-part drama The Outlaws, which starts on BBC1 on October 25, was a huge production with an a-list cast headed by Hollywood superstar Christopher Walken.

It tells the story of a group of criminals from varying walks of life who are brought together on a community payback scheme.

A production spokesperson for The Outlaws said: “An accident occurred involving one of our production vehicles. No-one was hurt or in the vehicle.

“We are investigating what happened and working on removing the vehicle as quickly and safely as possible.”
