A COUPLE who met on Blind Date say they are still “madly in love” as they celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary earlier this month.
After appearing on Cilla Black’s dating show three decades ago, Sue and Alex Tatham became the first-ever couple to tie the knot on the iconic series.
Toasting their pearl anniversary, the loved-up duo - who share two children, Emily, 27 and Charlie, 25 - enjoyed dinner and a ballet performance of Romeo and Juliet at the London Opera House.
“It was a fabulous evening where Sue and I celebrated 30 years of a wonderful marriage by doing lots of things we love best, culminating in one of the best ballets we have ever seen,” Alex told the .
“Thankfully, our love story ends better than Romeo and Juliet’s. We are still star-crossed lovers, though.”
Love and laughter has never been sparse for Sue and Alex who have seized every day together since he picked lucky number two over Lynne from Middlesex and Kate from Essex.
“There was lovely Sue, looking absolutely gorgeous,” Alex added, recalling the loving moment their eyes first met, which was eventually viewed by over 10m people.
“My legs were shaking,” chipped in Sue, rolling back the years to when she first met her adoring husband.

“We had to sit on these big stools and there was this big booming voice coming from the other side of the screen, which sounded charming.
“All I could think of was ‘I hope he’s taller than me’ because I have this thing about boyfriends being taller than girlfriends."
Thankfully, for Sue, the screen peeled back to reveal 6’2” gentleman Alex who just about towered over her.
“My initial reaction was ‘box ticked’," she joked.
"He was quite fun and he enjoyed my answers, so I knew we’d have a good time."
Straight from the ITV studios in London, their par were immediately whisked off to Shannon in Ireland, where they tucked into a medieval banquet and enjoyed the Cliffs of Moher.
On their return back to the capital, it was straight back to filming to give their final decision to Cilla.
STILL GOING STRONG
With both parties giving the late presenter a resounding ‘yes’, Alex asked Sue her plans for the rest of the day, teasing: “We were more than holding hands by the end of the day.”
Alex and Sue spent the next two years in a long-distance relationship, with the pair devoting their weekends to one another.
Eventually, Alex built up the courage to ask that all-important question - and the rest is history.
In 1991, accompanied by matchmaker Cilla, Alex and Sue were married in a ceremony that was watched by a staggering 17m people for a Blind Date special.

“The most important thing is, we look after each other and enjoy whatever life throws at us after 30 years of happy marriage,” Alex concluded.
“We’ve had a happy marriage - even though there’s been various things life has thrown as us - but generally, our philosophy is to hold hands and laugh at life and it will all be alright.”
