COUNTRYFILE viewers admitted they were seriously distracted by Matt Taylor's appearance during the BBC show's weather report on Sunday.

Fans may have tuned in for their latest instalment of all things rural, but instead focused on the presenter's choice of outfit.

It came as Matt, 45, took his place in front of the screen to provide his weather forecast for the week ahead.

Immediately viewers noted that Matt had ditched his usual suit and tie for the programme's more relaxed attire - and they had a lot to say on the topic.

One wrote on Twitter: "Wow! That's a checked shirt and a half! He certainly got the memo this week!!! #countryfile."

A second commented: "Congratulations weather reader Matt, you have saved the show with your full #countryfile weather reader outfit."

But also pointed out: "(Sadly you forgot to roll up your sleeves ready to muck out the presenters). Never the less, you have done a sterling job and deserve a pay rise!…"

Another joked: "Love the weather folk dressing up like hayseeds for the countryfile forecast."

One fan quipped: "The lovely little Matt taylor going for the trad check shirt and jeans top button undone. Loses points for not rolling up the sleeves. 8/10."

One very distracted viewer added: "Look at that shirt, its glorious! Looks so cosy, I could just climb in there with him [laugh emoji] #countryfile."

While a confused individual queried: "Why the need for weatherperson to wear jeans and check shirt? #countryfile."

Author and farmer James Rebanks recently praised Jeremy Clarkson for doing more for farming in one year than the BBC's Countryfile has in 30.

The Grand Tour star's agricultural series, Clarkson's Farm, debuted on Amazon Prime Video earlier this year, and follow's Jeremy's attempts to run his Diddly Squat farm himself.

COUNTRYFILE STYLE

Discussing Clarkson's Farm at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, James began: “I can report back from within the farming community. They all loved that programme. They loved it.

"Okay, he’s clowning around, and he plays to that audience, and a lot of farmers are lads that like machines and they would have watched Top Gear and all the rest of it.”

He continued: “But what they really liked is [that] they have been frankly p****d off with Countryfile for about 30 years because the whole logic of Countryfile is that you can’t make a mainstream, prime-time TV programme about farming because farming is for a niche group of idiots.”

James said that while there are "silly bits" in the show, Jeremy still manages to highlight the economics of farming.

He said: "And what Clarkson has come along and done is gone, 'Actually, no, everybody will watch a programme about farming, you just need to do it in a certain way.'"

Countryfile airs Sundays on BBC One.
